Verges convoca un concurs de caràcter anual per escollir el cartell de la Processó

Verges Launches an Annual Contest to Select the Official Poster for the Procession

The Association of the Procession of Verges is launching the first edition of an artistic competition to create the annual image for the Procession and the Dansa de la Mort (Dance of Death) poster, as well as a collectible graphic art print.

The call for submissions will officially open in September 2024. The jury responsible for the selection will consist of a member of the Procession Association, a local figure involved in the cultural scene, an art critic, an artist, and a representative from a museum or foundation.

Before the official call, and coinciding with this year’s Procession and Dansa de la Mort, the project will begin with a “zero edition,” led by painter and artist Assumpció Mateu, who will also collaborate in organizing the contest. On Saturday, March 2nd, at 7:00 PM, Mateu will present this year’s artwork and announce the launch of the contest at La Placeta de Verges.

Assumpció Mateu (Girona, 1952) currently lives and works in Jafre. She is a visual artist and Doctor of Fine Arts whose work reflects on nature from various perspectives. Trained at the University of Barcelona, she began teaching at the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1978, contributing to the development of the faculty's new project. In 1989, she decided to dedicate herself fully to art, exhibiting her work in Europe, the Americas, India, Lebanon, Canada, and China, among other places.

In recent years, her work has been shown at the Espai Volart of the Vila Casas Foundation, the Würth Museum in La Rioja, and the Aiete Cultural Center in San Sebastián, among other institutions and galleries. Mateu is an artist deeply committed to her ideals, which are reflected in a broad and high-quality body of work.

The competition will be open to participants from across the Catalan-speaking regions, and the aim is to continue promoting and sharing the Procession and Dansa de la Mort of Verges—this time through the lens of the visual arts.
