The Associació La Processó de Verges is pleased to announce the winning artwork of the First Edition of the Procession of Verges Poster Contest. This competition, created to celebrate creativity and symbolism around our beloved Procession, stood out this year for the high artistic quality of all entries. Due to the difficulty in selecting a single winner, two artists have been awarded honorable mentions for the symbolic and artistic value of their work.
Winning Work
Carme Sanglas
Tum tumtum, tum tumtum (2024)
Tempera on paper, 65 x 50 cm
This artwork, which will receive a €2,000 prize and become part of the Association’s collection, will be the official image of the 2025 Procession of Verges poster. In addition, the artist will produce a limited edition graphic print.
Artwork Statement:
The selected image captures the most powerful moment of the Procession: the sound of the drum and the leap of the skeleton figures. The two figures, depicted from the waist down, focus all attention on the act of jumping—highlighting the expressiveness and plasticity of the movement. The bones, sketched in a stylized, folk-inspired manner, evoke the painted designs on the costumes of the Dansa de la Mort. Using a palette of mid tones and a composition shifted toward the top, the piece conveys the magic and upward momentum of this unique ritual.
