Starting December 10, tickets will go on sale for the event taking place on December 21 at the Gothic church of Sant Francesc in Vilafranca del Penedès, where the Dance of Death from Verges will be part of a unique performance of the Song of the Sibyl. Tickets will be priced at €30, and all proceeds will go toward restoration work at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Vilafranca del Penedès.
This event, organized by the Futura Penedès Foundation, offers a rare combination of two powerful performance traditions: the Song of the Sibyl and the Dance of Death from Verges. It will mark only the eighth documented occasion that the Dance has been performed outside its village setting, with the approval of the Assembly of Members of the Procession Association of Verges.
The Song of the Sibyl will be performed by mezzo-soprano Noemí Martínez Saavedra, accompanied by the Polifònica de Vilafranca choir conducted by David Hernández i Urpí, and organist Jonatan Carbó. The production also benefits from the musical and ritual guidance of Pere Lluís Biosca and musicologist Oriol Pérez i Treviño. The staging will aim to revive the liturgical and dramatic essence of these ancient performances, drawing inspiration from medieval consuetas.
